lasers/ facial, do you tip?

Anonymous
Hi, when I go in monthly for lasers and hydrofacial, that price tag is steep. How much do you tip on top of that? I usually do 20, is that right?

I get these done in the dermatologists office and when I get an oxygen facial or the hydrafacial with I always tip 20%.

But, I am always unsure what to do when I get an IPL with the laser tech. I usually give her 20$, but last time I realized that was so low and possibly insulting! But, I thought you were not supposed to tip medical professionals. I guess this doesn’t really answer your question.

No. I tipped once and they said lol we don't do tips here.

No tips to medical professionals - yet
and I also don’t tip the owner of a salon/med spa

I go to a med spa type place for my Botox and occasional facials and the system always prompts me to tip, and I always decline but should I tip? The injectors are nurse practitioners! The other employees are not, but they have to be being paid more than the “tipped wage” of like the $2/hr or whatever that servers get paid, right? Ugh so confusing. And annoying too - as we increasingly become a cash-less society, it’s hard to remember to carry cash for tips.

Not tipping. It's way too expensive already.

NP. This is what I've always thought too. When I was having laser hair removal a few years ago, I never tipped the technician, thinking I wouldn't tip a nurse/doctor, etc. About four treatments in, I noticed another client handing her a wad of cash and I was *mortified*. I spoke to the receptionist about what most people do, and she said it varies. But still, I felt so bad that I hadn't been tipping her. OTOH, it was incredibly expensive!

I have IPL done by a nurse in my derm’s office. I’ve been going to her for 15 years, long before tipping everyone everywhere was a thing. It never occurred to me to tip her. I wouldn’t think of tipping my dermatologist or the nurse practitioner I saw once when my gynecologist was out.

Now I wonder if other people tip her.
