For the past few years, it seems like that all flight trip/road trip are going to theme park, zoo, aquarium, beach, hotel pool, and kid play museums. Kids are 5 & 9. Are yours similar experiences?
DH wants city trips. No one wants to drive, and we just rely on 90% walking & rest are ber and public transportation on every trip. We want to try a cruise, any recommendation for first timer? Food is important for adults. We are looking for holiday travel or next summer trip ideas from dmv. |
| Disney does great cruises and the kids camp is terrific onboard. They also did land trips, called Disney Adventures, which were similarly great. |
Op here. I hear good things about disney cruise. My kids do not watch or care about disney cartoons, and my 9 year old is a boy. Will Disney cruise too childish for my 9 year old boy? What month during mcps school day closing calendar is good to get on Disney cruise? |
| At that age we enjoyed NP trips to RMNP, Arches, Sedona, Olympic. Also Iceland is great. |
We also switched around that age from more kid-centric trips (beach over and over) to national park travel. Everyone is happy. |

Kids here are 4.5 and almost 9. We mostly go to cities. They have had In-n-Out once but otherwise don't eat fast food. We eat at nice restaurants and cafes. We aim to hit a playground or pool each day but otherwise explore museums, gardens, aquariums, city attractions, etc. We took the kids to the Anne Frank house this summer, for example.
We did take them to Disney Paris, but otherwise no theme parks when we did Europe this summer. London, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels. We all had a great time! |

I don’t know fool |
| At that age you can pretty much take them anywhere. Just be mindful of the fact that they will get tired more quickly than you when walking so build in frequent breaks. Find some kid things to do - children's museums, etc. - to keep them engaged. But travel far and wide! Take them all over the place! Try new things! Just remember, if you need passports, you need to make that request at least 6 months out so the passport office has time to process it and get it back to you in time for travel. |
This. But with one correction: passports take much shorter now to obtain. I got my kids' passports in 2 weeks recently. You should maybe start with a combination of city and beach. Maybe look into Old San Juan. Very easy to get to and offers lots to the whole family. |
What about London? There is so much to do with kids there and would be easy from the DMV. |
I have similar aged children and think my kids would really enjoy the novelty of it even though we aren't huge Disney people and they arent really into the characters. Check out some of the European Disney cruises too. |
| We took our kids (8 and 5) to Italy this summer for 10 days, based in a beach town between Naples and Rome. We did Rome, the Amalfi coast, Naples and several lazy days at the beach. We were in New York city last year before Thanksgiving, seeing a couple of sites along with walking around the city (my sister lives in Chelsea.) Earlier this year we stayed in Pittsburgh to chase the eclipse, and then went to Niagara Falls. |

London is great and lots for kids to do and see.
If you’re adventurous you can go to Lego Land in Windsor. My son loved changing of the guards (we saw the King). We did a dinosaur tea, ( we adults love Claridges tea they have a kids version) the museums, walked around, Tower of London. Also easy day trips to Oxford or Cambridge via the train. The zoo, there’s a boat road on the canal in Little Venice that goes up to Camden and you can check that area out and walk back via Primrose Hill and Regents Park. My kid who always complains when walking walked all day every day the entire day. We had stops along the way but it was wonderful. Well try Paris or Italy next. Friends took kids to Greece and loved it |
