It said they were made by a company called BAC - based in the Hungarian capital - which has a licence to use its brand. TRAIL LEADS TO BUDAPEST The senior Lebanese security source said the group had ordered 5,000 pagers from Gold Apollo, which several sources say were brought into the country earlier this year. Gold Apollo founder Hsu Ching-Kuang said the pagers used in the explosion were made by a company in Europe that Gold Apollo named in a statement as BAC. "The product was not ours. It was only that it had our brand on it," Hsu told reporters at the company's offices in the northern Taiwanese city of New Taipei on Wednesday. The senior Lebanese source said the devices had been modified by Israel's spy service "at the production level." "The Mossad injected a board inside of the device that has explosive material that receives a code. It's very hard to detect it through any means," the source said. The source said about 3,000 of the pagers exploded when a coded message was sent to them, simultaneously activating the explosives. Another security source told Reuters that up to three grams of explosives were hidden in the new pagers and had gone "undetected" by Hezbollah for months. ----- This is NOT a thread about the Israel-Hezbolla war. If this can be done to pagers, makes you wonder what else it can be done to. |
Imagine all those Chinese made phones everyone has......Like the movie "Lawnmower Man"..... all ringing at once. |
FTFY. ![]() |
HAHAHA basically! Flatscreens, and even appliances, are basically computers now. Vehicles, etc. All electronics could be suspect. |
I often wonder about all the made in China electronics. What’s in the chips, what extra components might be in there, what back doors might there be and all that. There’s so much of it; computers, routers, phones, cameras and a ton of other stuff. The government tries to regulate the stuff they buy for that reason, but it seems like an impossible task. |
Many of the newer phones are now "sealed" where you cannot open them without risk of damage and voiding warranty. Not only is this not very "green" as phones can have their battery replaced and be used for many more years, but also it is suspicious. What else are they hiding in the cases? And not just phone, appliances, tv's, etc. |
It happened again! This time explosives were hidden 2-way radios (walkie-talkies). Supposed manufacturer says that this model was discontinued 10 years ago and has a problem with counterfeits being made.
https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/israel-planted-explosives-hezbollahs-taiwan-made-pagers-say-sources-2024-09-18/ Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed ICOM said on Thursday it was investigating news reports two-way radio devices bearing its logo exploded in Lebanon and would release updated information as it becomes available on its website. The company, which says it manufactures all of its radios in Japan, could not confirm whether it had shipped the device, in part because that model had been discontinued 10 years ago. The Osaka-based firm said its products for overseas markets are sold exclusively through authorised distributors and it vets exports in accordance with Japan's security trade control regulations. The company has previously warned about counterfeit versions of its devices circulating in the market, especially discontinued models. The hand-held radios were purchased by Hezbollah five months ago, around the same time as the pagers, a security source said. Note: Please continue to discuss supply chain security here. The internet of things. This is why I go low tech when I can. Having access to your house, your car, your refrigerator, dependent on the internet is dangerous. The Crowdstrike incident was just a hint of what could happen if a bad actor wanted to cause chaos in our lives. |
Lebanese security? You mean terrorists trying to get ahold of export restricted devices through a shady back door? |
question. what to do with war comments. |
