I think that's exactly right. But it's important to remember that need-based grants at schools like Princeton and Rice are extended to families that most would regard as comfortably upper middle class. No one is saying no to schools like Stanford and MIT because they can't afford it. The private universities on this list offer exceptionally good financial aid. So the talent goes there and to the solid state flagships. More than ever, the absurd costs of college today are going to dictate where accomplished students go to college. |
