Just wondering what everyone's thoughts on how old is too old for a sippy cup. This will kind of be a 2 part question.
My daughter is 7 and she spends a lot of time at grandmas. She gets dropped off there by the bus after school and grandma will watch her for a few hours. While there, she has my daughter use a sippy cup because she doesn't want spills and flat out says she doesn't trust her with a cup or glass. It isn't even one of those sports bottles which I have given her to use, they are actual sippy cups. My daughter doesn't mind but, I feel she is way too old for a sippy cup. My second question is, does anyone else's grandma spoil their kids to the point where they still see them as little kids or babies? I tell her time after time that she is 7 and doesn't use sippy cups anymore but it falls on deaf ears. My daughter has asked to have one at our house which I absolutely refused. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts on this are. |
| I would ask the dentist if the sippy cup is affecting her bite. If it isn't, then I would let it go. |
| Like age 4, but it wouldn't really bother me from time to time in this situation. |
Just had her last dentist apt before school. I didn't mention it to her but she did not see anything to cause concern either. And knock on wood, she has yet to have a cavity. She is good at brushing her teeth thoroughly every day. I know I need to pick my battles but I just feel she is too old for a sippy cup that's all. Grandma also needs to realize that she isn't a toddler anymore. |
Thanks, as I said in my last comment, I need to pick my battles. |
| Meh. My 8 year old has a sippy with water next to her bed. She likes it more than a water bottle (no linger a straw one either) as those are for school. And she uses an open cup everywhere else |
I am not sure I would have an issue with it here if it was only at night in her room. I just see it as her being too old to using one all the time when at grandmas house. |
| OP if you need the childcare then I think you deal with the sippy cup. It's not as if your child is incapable of drinking from another cup or anything like that. The only stand I would take is that the sippy cup is a grandma's house only thing. |
| Seeing how adults commonly walk around with Starbucks mugs with sippy cup lids, I'm going with, "You're never too old for a sophisticated sippy cup." |
| I was going to say 3. Give her a yeti or something. |
| People of all ages use sippy cups these days. We call them water bottles now though. |
| That’s a really petty thing to complain about. Seven year olds do have accident spills. I use water bottles or Starbucks cups with lids. A lot of them have sippy style straws. |
| Teach your kid to only drink water at Grandma's table and to clean up any spills she makes. 7 is definitely too old. |

Doesn’t she bring a water bottle to school? Can’t she use that for water at grandma’s after school?
7 is obviously way too old for a sippy cup. I can’t even picture it, what kind does your mom have? The little ones with silicone tips and two handles? Is it plastic? I would either let it go or buy a Stanley or something for your mom to keep at her house. I try to limit the amount of stuff my kids drink out of plastic, so that would be my main concern. |
| Time to move on to the Stanley cup or a Yeti. |
