Help with Soccer

My tall, fast 9 year old daughter wants to learn how to play but does not know where to begin. With her friends on established teams now, can anyone recommend a league and a high school or college age girl that can help once or twice a week with the basics to get her up to speed?

Sign up for rec. And let her go hang out with her friends at the field and play soccer!

What area are you located? There are many hs players in sure looking to help youth players, but best to start with where you are located/willing to train

1. Sign up for your local town's rec soccer team.
2. Look up beginner soccer drills on YouTube. Have her do them everyday for 15 minutes or more.
3. Watch soccer games.

Done.

Playing in a game is different than messing around with friends. Do spring rec. If it goes well from the start
you can tryout for all-stars. If that goes well take her to travel tryouts if that's what she wants. Your kid is missing zero opportunities at 9 by starting at rec.

See if any of the rec leagues near you are offering any skills/development clinics this fall and/or winter. Then do rec in the spring maybe with another skills clinic if she’s really into it. YouTube has drills if she’s the type who will work on her own. Some skills need to be done in a team or small group though. Try out for a select or travel team if she seems to have the ability and is ready for the commitment. Be wary of low level teams who will take anyone’s money. See if you can ask around about who is happy with their program who isn’t, and why, before jumping in to travel.

Do not have a HS or College kid train your kid like a trainer would do. That is a great way to make the development work twice as hard as it needs to be.

1) start at rec
2) sign up for a fundamentals class (ie Coerver, Golden Boot, etc) - don’t overthink “which one is the best” - just get her in something halfway decent to start.
3) if she is having fun, and wants to continue / improve, THEN start figuring out how to scale it up.
