| We are having a party with 12 kids for my 8 year old daughter. It’s the first party of the school year so I’m not sure of the norm. Do 2nd graders do goodie bags? I find them wasteful, but happy to do them if it’s the norm. |
| Op here. I’d goodie bags are the norm, any good ideas for content? I don’t want to spend more than $5-$8 per bag. |
| Unfortunately, yes, I think they are still the norm. |

They’re still the norm for my 7 and 9 yos, unfortunately. The best favors my kids have gotten, though, were one nicer item related to the party theme. Examples: a fleece Pokemon blanket, a small pack of Legos (I think they’re $5 at Walmart), pack of Pokemon or sports trading cards, a paperback book, etc. These are all things my kids actually used and kept!
If you want to do a typical goody bag I would just add a few pieces of candy and one non-candy item— maybe a Croc jibbit (or knock off) or fidget spinner. Your child could make each kid a bracelet or something if she’s crafty. My kids love making and trading those rubber band chain bracelets. |

They’re not the norm for my daughter’s 2nd grade class.
Sometimes she’ll come home with something she made at the party. For example, she’s gone to a painting party and come home with a small painting. This past weekend, she went to a dance party and they decorated tutus, so she came home with that. But no one does goodie bags with plastic crap anymore. |
I’ll add that my daughter is having her party at a pottery painting place. So each kid will paint something and bring it home. It’ll be the party activity and something to keep. |
| I don't know, I feel like they stopped doing them at third grade parties for kids turning 9. Everyone is over all the crap. |
| We have a party this month and thanks to this post, we won't do them. |
| Please no! Make it stop. |
How is that tutu so different than plastic crap? My kid would love it for 2 days...and it would be tossed after sitting around for a while. |

I did them for my son's 9th, even though I knew I didnt have to. Included nicer stuff like a pack of sports trading cards, an outside toy, nice pen, and one full size candy bar was the only edible thing. I hope kids used them. I probably wont do it again.
One friend gave us a water bottle which was a nice idea and we use it. |
| Yes, my daughter and her friends definitely still want a favor. They prefer one small item like a small stuffy rather than a bag or plastic crap though. |
