| My coworker makes a great salad/slaw that goes really well with Korean BBQ. I know he uses Ramen noodles in it. He says its a Korean family recipe and won't share the recipe with me! I want to make it myself. Does anyone have the recipe for this or something like it? |

Wait... he won't share the recipe with you? Why? That seems odd. I have never heard of any sort of Korean pan chan that uses ramyun, but I was on all recipes this morning looking for something and found this: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Dads-Asian-Slaw/Detail.aspx It might be close to what you want? |

How can it be a Korean recipe if the main ingredient is ramen, which is not at all Korean?
Are we talking about instant ramen? Why in the world would any recipe that uses dessicated pre-cooked instant noodles be all that precious? Oh, and it's extremely rude in east Asian cultures like Korea to say outright that you won't give someone a recipe; you're supposed to demur. |

OP here. PP's, I agree with everything you've said. He's Korean and he's made it with the Korean BBQ he's made for us. He says it's his "grandmother's" recipe. He doesn't outright say he won't give you the recipe...he offers to make it for you! However, I know that he'll offer to make it for me and I feel that it'd be rude of me to ask him to make it.
I know Ramen noodles are in no way Korean. I have no idea where it came from and it does sound kind of weird but it's really really good and does go really well with Korean BBQ. Thanks for the allrecipes link. That looks like it! I'll try it and see... |

it doesn't really sound korean to me (i'm korean) but i don't know.
is it cabbage and other sliced up veggies with a tangy clear vinaigrette type sauce? my best hunch is that it's the recipe off the back of the pre-sliced cabbage slaw you can get at the grocery store. i tried it once and it was good and it used broken bits of dried ramen and used the soup mix with rice vinegar and sugar to make the dressing. i think it also called for adding sliced scallions and sliced almonds. if it's not that, and if it includes some red pepper flakes, or if it's just plain white marinated strips of radish, then i'm more inclined to believe that it is a korean dish. |
