The kid is in 5/6 math and took MAP this week. They claimed teacher told them it was one for the older kids. Is this 6+?
|
| While not the correct name for the test, it is true that starting last year, 5th graders in compacted 5/6 took the “middle school” MAP-M in the fall. In prior years, they didn’t make the switch until spring (I think). It is expected that scores will go down slightly with the switch in the test (though anecdotally, it wasn’t more than a couple of points for many and some went up and most rebounded/went up by winter). |
| Where was the communication or decision to s t a r t doing this mentioned? By boe, principal, or another group? |
What is the correct name for the test? |
When DC took it I think their score went from 275 to 265. A 10-15 point drop is expected for kids on the high-end. |
My kid scored 250+ and I thought they did well
|
Excellent score! |
MAP-M 6+ |
260+ here |
NP or the one from above? |
That is a great score especially for a 5th grader taking the MAP-M for 6th. It used to be a score that high meant you were placed in Algebra in 6th at many of the wealthier schools. |
Yes. As of last year, 5/6 kids take the 6+ test. Those who are in grade 5 do not. |
My kid's went down by more than 30 points. But he was at the very upper end of the 2-5 test and maybe had a bad day. Did better in the next MAP test taken. |
Sorry to clarify - those who are in regular grade 5 math do not take that test. |
| Mine scored 250+. I know they will recommend him for AMP7+ for MS but not seeing the point in doing calculus in 11th is. He’s more a humanities type. |
