Left my current job but don't want to share why in the interview

Anonymous
Looking for some tactful tips.

Been at my current company for 5+ years and left my job as I didn't agree with the companies ethics..biggest reason being their racist comments on one of the regional office staff where most of the work is being allocated for fraction of the money while all senior staff in the US made very high 500k+ salaries. Other reasons being my role was changing and company was going through major financial strom.

I have a few interviews lined up and I would like to be prepared if I am asked why I left my last job.

How best can I answer this question?

Thanks

I don't have any advice, but I left a job due to some egregious behavior on my boss's part. (It was inappropriate, and it was traumatic, but still.) I made the mistake of telling people about it. You are already smarter than me by asking.

A: Role was changing in a direction inconsistent with career goals. Be prepared to give examples. Also the company was facing financial challenges due to (X reason that no rational interviewer will blame on you that's not confidential).

Say you left because your job was changing and the new position wasn't a good fit for your long term goals and long term you were concerned about staying due to the finances of the company. You left so you could focus on the job search to find a good fit.

I've framed a similar situation as an unfavorable reorganization, and the people I interviewed with were always sympathetic. I talked about all the positives in my original role, and then I talked about how things changed, and then I talked about why this new position aligns with all my original goals and interests. It's a way to stay positive while also explaining the negatives.

Just be sure that the new role is a good fit for your career goals. I one time made the mistake of using this as a reason, and the interviewers informed me that the new role didn't offer what I was describing. I think my interpretation of the role was reasonable based on the job description, but needless to say, I didn't get a second interview.

Why did you leave a job with nothing lined up?

1. Looking for better career options
2. Family reasons

You've been at your company for five years (that means you're currently there) and yet you left your job (that means you're no longer there). So which is it then? Maybe focus more on consistency in your interview than worrying about anything else.

You “signed an NDA and cannot disclose the terms of you leaving Xyz Xorp”
