Vacuuming

Do you find it tiring (physically)?

I do. If you respond, please include your age and gender.

I am female, 67.

No, but I use a dyson stick which is pretty light.

PP. Also, my vacuum is an Electrolux canister from the 1980s. I hate the cumbersome upright vacuums. So, you're as old as I am, OP, do you have a old heavy vacuum?

I effing love vacuuming - it's my favorite household chore. I LOVE seeing the canister fill up with crap that is no longer on the floors - it's so incredibly satisfying.

Mid 40s I live in a townhouse, and vacuum every other day, typically. I don't find it physically hard at all to go up/down stairs with it, but I'm in good physical shape.

Now cleaning the shower/tub? HATE.

No, but I chose my vacuum carefully: it's a lightweight Dyson city, that I baby because it's not manufactured anymore and I can't do without its unique features, like the ultra-slim head.

BTW, I hate all household chores except washing the dishes, which involves Fun With Water.

It is a pain to carry it up/down stars but not the vacuuming itself...unless I decide to be very thorough and move furniture.

It does not make me tired but the noise drives me insane.

I don't but I use the Dyson stick. We just got a new one and it has a light on the front it and holy cow can you see every single thing on your floors! I'm obsessed with it now, it's like a game.

Yes! I got that Dyson Gen5 cordless stick with the laser head and it's crazy what it shows on your floors! I've had Dyson sticks for years and kind of wish I couldn't see all the fine dust coating my wood floors despite frequent vacuuming. I'm a 38 year old female in good shape so it doesn't tire me out but whenever I break out my big corded Shark Apex upright I find it tiring on my wrist. I think that is because the bulk of the weight is in the center of the machine and when you swivel the machine all the weight seems to shift with it. I miss old school uprights where all the weight was on the floor. Those seemed more balanced in the weight department.

Yes, female, 53. I think something is wrong with my vacuum though.

Yes, 53 year old female using a very good Miele canister vacuum built for pet hair.

However the head is for hardwood and other smooth flooring surfaces and I have to run it over some areas that are very low pile carpet, so that makes it a bit more of a workout. Also swap out attachments as I go for ceilings/walls, upholstery, window ledges and screens etc. A good thorough vacuum is a great workout that usually puts me into a good sweat.

I bet Mr. Miyagi learned the connection between waxing cars & karate from you. You should write a book on making the most of household chores. I’d love to read the chapter on gaining arm definition by opening pickle jars.

Well, enough that I prefer to do it before going to the gym or on a non-gym day. 55 and in good shape. Also Miele canister with lots of short flights of stairs.
