Wheaton HS on lockdown due to reports of someone with a gun nearby

MCPD just put out the alert so there's not much info, but here's the alert as picked up by MoCoShow:

Wheaton High School and Thomas Edison High School are both on lockdown Friday morning due to the report of an individual outside of the school campuses with a handgun.

Montgomery County Police issued the following at 8:58am: “Wheaton & Edison high schools are currently in a shelter in place following a report of an individual outside of the school campuses with a handgun. MCPD is on scene and working to confirm the validity of the report.”

Wheaton parents, keep us posted as and if you learn more.

Glad it was reported and cleared quickly. There's been a lot of violent activity in the Wheaton-Glenmont area. MCPD really needs to get to the bottom of what's going on in that community.

Not in this school year. But Wheaton-Glenmont has been a hot spot for A LOT of activity over the last few years.

MCPD can crack down but the criminal justice system in MD favors criminals, so it's not like much is going to happen once MCPD makes arrests.

Sorry- this is 2nd time Edison has been in a shelter in place. First one was 9/9 when a non MCPS student entered the Edison building

Yep. That time the threat had rubber mallet.

We were in lockdown twice today at Wheaton. Came out of the lockdown just to go back into lockdown a few minutes later.
