Do you happen to know if this area is safe? It looks like it is west of Germantown. We are house hunting and noticed some nice homes in Boyds.

I think its very safe but I have heard that the schools in Germantown/Boyds are not that great. This may just be in comparison to places like Wooten, Churchill, BCC, WJ or RM. If I was a stay at home mom I would love to live in one of the houses that backs up to the Germantwon Soccer plex and rec center. The playground is great and on the other end they have mini golf, a splash park and indoor pool. I think that neighborhood has an elementary school in the neighborhood for easy walking. I would only drive once a week and live at the park with the kids!

It's very safe and very rural, other than the planned community of Clarksburg. The schools are fine. Your biggest problem would be the commute into DC if that's what you are planning to do.

Keep in mind that parts of Boyds are simply Germantown with a different zip and yes there have been problems at the zoned HS.

fyi - if either of you are commuting to DC, the commute is painful. I used to date a guy who lived up there and we had a hard time getting together because traffic was so bad I never wanted to see him on weeknights, or leave from his house the next morning. (Same goes for Clarksburg; I think they're around the same exit on 270.) There are nice homes up there for decent prices because it's considered pretty far out.
