Spending 2 days in NYC with a baby

I would like to go to NYC to spend a weekend next month but the hotels there are very expensive (I need some place CLEAN) and money is a issue. So, I was thinking on staying in NJ instead and go to NYC to spend the day....
If we do that, any suggestions of a place to stay? |

We stay in the Hilton NY on (Theater District, Midtown West) 1335 Ave of the Americas, across from the halal cart, and it's about $130 through those online price places. It's clean, near Times Square, and our baby was 7 months last time we were there.
