Alzheimer Mortality Calculators

Anonymous
I found these (morbid) calculators online, and have plugged in my LO’s information to be able to plan for her care in the next years. Has anyone here used them? Do you feel super guilty?
Were they accurate?

I feel terrible each time I do. My mother has a small nest egg that should help her pay for about three years of memory care. I can still take care of her at home, but I just feel like my family, and myself have done enough. I am an only child, so it’s just me. I worry she will outlive her savings, and then will have to move to a subpar Medicaid facility.

I would say she is about a mid stage 6 on the Alzheimer scale. Age: 87 and frail. Still walks in the house; feeds herself; needs help bathing; starting to have more toilet issues; some hallucinations, forgets words, not violent and knows my family, but cannot name her sisters.

Yes, my mom seems to be in the same stage and in age to your mom. I look up info on the web too and hope that the money lasts. Right now she is in assisted living and has been there for over 2 1/2 years. We have money for maybe 3 more years. I am always worried that they may kick her out if she changes and becomes too much for them to handle but she hasn't really changed at all these past 2 1/2 years.

I would recommend asking her doctor. My LO died in the timeframe predicted. The calculators don’t account for individual factors.

Don’t feel badly about trying to plan for care. It doesn’t mean you are wishing for your LO’s death.
