How long is your preschooler’s bus ride?

My 3 year old is about to start preschool at a public school. We are eligible for a short yellow bus to come to our house to pick her up and drop her off. However we only live 10 minutes away from the school. I am apprehensive about having my 3 year old take a bus and worse, if the bus ride becomes long like over 30 minutes. The school starts at 9am and my daughter typically wakes up at 8am. I can get away with leaving the house at 8:45am if I take her. If the bus has to come to our house earlier like at 8:25am to get her to school she would have to wake up earlier to get ready.

If your child is at a county preschool and rides the school bus that comes to your house, how long is the ride? How far do you live from the school?

Could you drive her and then have her take the bus home? She'll still be able to sleep in. You'll get some data on how she feels about the bus and can decide then if driving or busing both directions makes sense.

Do not let your 3 year old take the bus if you don’t have to. Suck it up.

I wouldn’t let my 3-year-old take the bus….

Everyone, including forum posters and teachers, swears every kid loves taking the bus.

Jesus

Pre-K is more of 4 years old
3 is too young for bus imo. Wish it had seatbelts

I wouldn't unless it was necessary for work.

So 4 years old is okay to ride the bus but not 3 years old? What in that year makes a difference?

OP , are you mad even asking this? That is not safe

The bus is completely safe for 3 year olds. I don’t know what people are going on about. The pre k kids even use harnesses to keep them seated. A school bus is far safer than a car.

The people going off against it don’t realize the short buses for preschoolers only have a few kids within the same age range riding it and an aide to make sure the harnesses are in place and teachers who wait to receive the kids at drop off.

It doesn’t matter how long other preschoolers ride the bus. What matters is if your bus works for you. If it doesn’t then just drive her. Let her take the bus home if that works for you.

No harm in gathering info on how long other kids rides are and how they do.
