White baby, worried about sun

Anonymous
I have THE whitest baby I have ever seen. I am actually olive skinned, but my husband is a whitey and unfortunately, baby did not get my complexion so now I am a mess worried about him in the sun (I already have to chase my husband around with the 50). DS is 11 mos old. I have been slathering him with sunblock before walks in the stroller but he is still turning pink.

Do any of you know if there is some kind of net I can put over the stroller that lets him still see out but blocks the UV rays and does not make it too hot for him? What do you other parents of super-white babies do so you can play outside comfortably? For the pool, we plan to get one of those floatie things the baby can sit in that has a little canopy over it (I saw this in that One Step Ahead catalogue)

Thank you!

As someone who grew up on the beach but comes from a family of very fair people, I have alot of experience with this. A number of companies make clothes with sunblock in them. Here is a link to a company that makes such clothes and is endorsed by the Skin Cancer Foundation http://www.coolibar.com/childsunclothing.html. Other such companies can easily be found on google. Generally, just make sure he is in long sleeves and long pants, with a hat with a brim that shades his whole face and neck. When he gets older, make sure that you are also using chap stick with sunblock.

Love love coolibar. Just got the one piece swimsuit romper for my 14 month old. We also really like the Protect a Bub sunshade for the stroller.

I've got the same worries, and my baby is even younger so he's not supposed to wear sunscreen. He's also bald. I've been contemplating buying the Protect-a-Bub Deluxe 2 in 1 UPF 50 Shade and bug net. It's available at Target online. The user reviews are positive, but it looks kind of silly and I'm not sure if it will really work.

I am not sure what type of stroller you have, but we have a mountain buggy and you can buy a UV cover that is black mesh and blocks out most of the sun. Maybe something like that would fit your stroller too?

I got a Solarveil sling for my baby to carry him...and when he is in the stroller, I drape it over the hood and down in front of him. He can still see out and it's cool enough while blocking the rays.

Solarveil went out of business, though, but you can still find products made of their material.
