Auction items for charity

Anonymous
I have a gala for an NFP I volunteer with coming up.
I have been tasked with getting at least 10 items for auction to raise money.
where do I start? where do I find items to auction?
ideas on what to auction?

What was auctioned off last year?

A lot depends on how fancy the event is. But gift cards to local restaurants or other businesses would be a good place to start. Do you know anyone with season tickets to a sports team or theater who would donate tickets to a game or show? Do you know anyone with a timeshare or frequent flyer miles who would donate a flight or hotel stay?

It so depends. Like for a school auction, a reserved parking space for a popular school event, or a popsicle party for your kid's class, might be great. For a pet-focused event, a free dog grooming would be a good item. But if it's for the national symphony orchestra or something, the items are probably higher value.

Vacation home or hotel weekend away.

Wine store - put together a sampler basket. Can make it more expensive if you add a charcuterie board with gourmet elements.

Restaurant gift cards.

US Capitol flag - get a retired, flown for one day. This was huge at a recent auction.

Private lessons - piano, voice, instrument, etc.

National Parks Passport - valid for one year.

More ideas: office catering - lunch for the whole office

Food truck visits - we’ve had sno cones, ice cream and tacos.

I won a two hour work session with a genealogist/archivist. Think outside the box - there are experts everywhere-home organizers, landscape designers, gardeners, pet sitters, dog walkers, hairstylists, barbers, mobile vet services, cat detailers.

Ask local businesses to donate:
1. Gift cards for restaurants, class pass, activities, events
2. Bottles of wine or liquor
3. Merchandise (home goods stores sometimes do this)
4. Spa treatments, mani/pedi, massage, haircut

Ask local families to donate:
1. Week at their vacation home
2. Sports games if they have season tickets
