Tips for Applying to Burgundy Farms

Anonymous
Burgundy Farms is number 1 on our list. Does anyone have any tips on applying? For instance, what to highlight during parent interview or in application essays? How important is it to present test results such as the SSAT or ISEE (our previous school didn't test)? Child is applying for 7th grade (2025-2026) - does anyone know how many spaces are usually available for 7th? Any other tips are appreciated!

We were hoping for some level of financial aid from Burgundy. Will this hurt our chances?

I don't think it will hurt your chances, but just know they give very little aid

First, it’s Burgundy Farm (not plural). No biggie but it doesn’t hurt to get the name right. It’s not that common for kids to come in at 7th grade, but they’ll accept families who are a good fit if there are openings. I’d say there are usually a small number of new students in 7th (my kid was one of them a few years ago).

We’re still there with a younger child. Burgundy definitely cares about fit so you’ll want to show you understand the progressive education model and articulate why it’s a good match for your student. I think coming in for 7th, they’d want to know why you’re looking to move your student from their current school. The school doesn’t place a lot of weight on testing but it can help provide a full picture and profile of your kid. Finally, Burgundy is pretty down to earth overall so no need to try to be fancy and flashy.

Admissions at Burgundy typically keeps a list of current parents who are happy to answer questions. Maybe ask if you can be connected to some current MS parents, particularly ones whose children entered in 6th through 8th, but probably any MS parent that volunteers with Admissions can offer up some thoughts/advice and answer any questions.
