Two rugs, same room, same pattern?

Anonymous
I have a large open room in which I am breaking up the space for the two different "areas" by getting two rugs. I'm considering getting a rug with the same pattern, just in different complementary colors that are on the understated/muted side. Will the same pattern on two rugs in the same room look ridiculous? The spaces will look cohesive on their own with these rugs, just can't decide if it will look dumb to have the same pattern. Thanks.

It shouldn’t be the same pattern in a different color. Ideal is 2 rugs that play well together. But if that is daunting just two of the exact same rug. Here are tips on mixing rugs

It’s your house. If you like how the rugs look what’s stopping you?

Haha, OP here and I agree on some level, but just soliciting some design opinions from others.

I have a large open room with 2 different seating areas and they have the same rug. Adjacent to the large open great room is breakfast nook which has it’s own coordinating rug.

Will the furniture be similar in color palette, style for both areas? How big is the room?

I would use the same rug, same color, same pattern for both areas. If they are close in proximity, I would use the same color.

Same rug or same pattern different color is the lazy person's way of decorating. I think you posted the rug you like on an earlier thread, and it was a great rug. You need to find something else in the right size that has the same colors or coordinating colors but a different design.

Search website after website. It takes time. I like Rug Source. There are others, as well.

Thanks. It's 2 different spaces in the same open room. One is a sofa/TV area, the other is my home office space. The rugs would be literally like two feet apart.

Oh and yes to same overall color palette.

OP here. I haven't posted about any rug before - must be someone else.

Normally I like that site but I'm not loving a lot of those looks.

I think it would read as uncreative. It's easy to do two rugs in the same room. I have that going in my living room. Main area has a more traditional coral rug and the childrens area has a beige one that's a little more modern.

You should consider something more vibrant for the sitting area rug. A more colorful thing on the floor is never going to be that loud because it's so far below eye level. But it would add a lot of depth to the room. Then for the office area do a quiet pattern in a neutral that matches your main rug.

Same. Some of it looks like an eclectic cluttered mess in a rainbow palette for an eccentric. Maybe ok for a kindergarten class room but not what I want to come home and look at every day.
