Yield Protection

Anonymous
What schools are known to yield protect? My son is a senior with a very strong SAT score. Worried he might get rejected or waitlisted for schools that are considered easy safeties.

Schools that with reputations of yield protect that I am aware of

American University
New York University
Boston University

Who else should be added?

Emory invented it. If they smell Ivy on you you're out.

Just apply where you think you’d like to go if accepted, quit trying to second guess an inherently opaque decision making process.

1. VT is not a safety.
2. VT does not yield-protect and says as much right on their website.

"Yield Protection
Virginia Tech does not participate in yield protection."

I was going to ask about VT. Looking at Naviance is raised some concerns given the amount of blue and red in the upper R quandrant. Those kids weren’t rejected by they didn’t have the stats.

Caveat, none of those (American, NYU, BU) would be safeties for a high stats kid even if they didn't yield protect because their acceptance rates would still be too low. For safeties, look well over 50%.

Also known for yield protection:
Santa Clara University
George Washington University

Exactly.

And a "very strong " SAT isn't much, whatever that means ( just give the score).GPA could be meh. Basic ECs.
