This is what I came up with. What do you think? I’ve never owned either option so I thought I’d ask here for opinions from people who have.
Pool table -Pros: fun, challenging, more furniture like, better for adults?, relaxing -cons: likely bigger/heavier, more furniture like (so harder to remove) Ping pong -pros: kids can play more easily I think?, can fold half side up on some models so less floor space is taken up, lighter weight, cheaper -cons: not as fun long term maybe?, less sturdy, noisier |
| My parents have a pool table, with a table tennis "topper" so you can have both! |
| Ping pong. Billiards are trashy. |
| Agree with pp. |
| Billiards. Ping pong is trashy. |
| We used to have bumper pool. It’s smaller than a regular pool table and really fun. I think with pool you can have more conversation going on. It’s more social. |
| We have a ping pong table that gets a lot of use by young and old |
| Ping pong! |
| Both with a topper. And a Fußball table if you have the space. |
I feel like foosball tables never get played with. Same with air hockey. |
| Pong is a skill they’ll need for Ivy frats. Billiards is low class. |
| I’d vote pool, better in the long term and an endlessly diverting game. |
We have this and it’s great. At the urging of our teens and young adult child, we also got a shuffleboard table, which has been a huge hit with kids and adults alike. I sometimes play by myself. It feels like meditation. |

Pool and billiards are more challenging and intellectually stimulating for older kids and adults. There's a lot more mental calculation going on. Ping pong is about developing good reflexes, it can get boring after a while and it's very noisy.
Plus, if people are not very good at ping pong it's very tiresome to go find where the ball ended up every single time. If you suck at pool, the balls are still on the table. |
| I vote for an air hockey table. |
