How does RIF work?

Is your RIF date based on when you started federal service, when you started at your current particular agency, or when you started at your current particular division/office within your agency (if you changed jobs at your agency)?

Started federal service.

If you left for several years and then came back, which starting date is used? First starting date or second?

First but it’s not that simple. It also depends on your job series too. If more cuts on your series you may get cut first even thou you may have longer service time than someone on a different series. It’s hell.

It gets adjusted - it’s called your service computation date. If you have military service that counts toward your SCD, and your SCD also gets adjusted based on an average of your last 3 performance ratings.
