Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday

Anonymous
I figure now is the time to make this thread. Leading up to ex-president Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday, there will be a whole bunch of positive, uplifting, commemorative events, especially in Georgia. These include a concert, and 100-mile bike ride near Plains, GA.

I was not alive during his presidency, but as far as ex-presidents go… what a human being.

Notably, he said in a recent interview that he wants to hold on long enough not simply to celebrate his 100th birthday, but to vote in the November.

Given his status in hospice over the past year, I was surprised and heartened to learn that he is still remarkably cognizant.

Do you also talk about no-hitters while they are in progress?

Could he be appointed to a cabinet position in the Harris administration?

He looked like a bad president at the time. Then we got George W Bush. Then we got Trump.

Now he looks like he wasn't so bad of a President after all.

Ain’t THAT the truth! We had no idea what lunacy we were in for.

Regardless of how one views his presidency, there is no question that he is a good human being. I hope he gets his wish, and gets to vote for Harris.

He is a Christian with a very strong faith in Jesus Christ. Although no one is perfect, he has led an exemplary life. Hope his wishes come true!!

Carter is still one of the worst Presidents, but Biden finally beat him for the bottom of the barrel.

Hey you can be a great person and suck at your job and be awesome at what you do but suck as a person. You all know that not all great people are great at what they do and same is true vice versa right? Please tell me people aren't all stupid!!

Agreed that as a human being, Carter gets it. But as President, maybe that contributed to him not being awesome. Hindsight is 20/29.

I think Clinton is a sleaze ball. But damn he was born to be President.

Presidential scholars disagree with you.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_rankings_of_presidents_of_the_United_States

Trump is the ONLY president who only has ratings 41 and lower out of 46 presidents. He is categorically the worst president in history based on presidential scholar ratings.

Biden has not done that badly, ranked 14th and 19th, but typically the ratings are not given until the President has left office.

Carter ranked between 18th and 32nd and is considered about middle of the pack of Presidents.

The other weak Presidents were
Harrison - ranked between 35th and 41st
FIllmore - ranked between 33rd and 39th
Pierce - ranked between 38th and 42nd
Buchanan - ranked between 40th and 44th (closest to Trump)
Johnson - ranked between 24th and
Harding - ranked between 37gth and 42nd

It's arguable whether Buchanan or Trump was the worst President in history. Buchanan is typically blamed for the start of the Civil War. He didn't stop the South from seceding and he didn't give in to their demands. He basically frustrated both sides into the Civil War. He also championed states rights in deciding on Slavery.

There are actually a lot of historic parallels between Trump and Buchanan, and they both made many of the same mistakes while in office. Not surprising that they are both rated at the bottom of the barrel for Presidents.

You're weird and have no grasp of history. Carter was middle of the road and Biden's presidency has been remarkably effective.

Had to go to the source for that Andrew Johnson *24* ranking. I thought it was a typo, but somehow that's where the Times 2008 survey has him listed. Most of the others have him in the 40s. He was terrible.

It's Georgia, his vote will count whether he makes it or not.

MY guess is he makes it.
