Clothing question - running shorts with bike shorts/spandex underneath?

My DD is 12 and is pretty modest. At this time she's wearing soccer/basketball shorts to school. She said she would wear jean shorts, but wants them longer (mid-thigh). Any that I find are so matronly.

I see a lot of the kids wearing running shorts, and she thinks they are too short. Would it be weird for her to wear those running shorts with spandex shorts underneath? That way they provide more coverage, but are trendy.

Yes, I think wearing tights under those shorts would look weird. FWIW, my kid wears the short running shorts, but refuses to wear tanktops.

I suppose you can try making your own cut-off jean shorts?

My teen just wears the longer basketball shorts. She likes the pockets for her phone!

There are a lot of the short style shorts have bike style shorts under them. They are one piece. They’ve become really popular.

Basketball shorts look good too. They look great with a Tshirt and high tops.

She has to change for PE every day and shorts are a lot easier to manage than leggings. So she prefers shorts.

And the other po confirming basketball shorts are fine too. I just wanted to be sure she had a variety of options.
