If your team practices or has meets planned at GMU in Sept/Oct, what have you been told is your plan B?

Why? Are they fixing the facility then?

There are some meets on the schedule. I know that facility needs major updates.

The competition pool facility has been under renovation since before the 2023-2024 season and was closed for major work this summer (and last summer). The work is almost finished, but the re-opening is delayed. We’ve been told that our club has identified alternative practice locations but don’t yet know specifics.
I feel sorry for the GMU swim team!

The makos meet at the end of September has been moved to the freedom center in Manassas

Are you a Mako? I didn't see anything in the meet announcement.

They haven’t updated meet announcement but it was sent to all officials in the solicitation for volunteer officials and it is also listed on mako website. It’s a big change. It really should have been pushed out by teams as well bc it could change families views on participation in the meet but it is possible the makos haven’t pushed it out to the teams.

Agreed that information should be pushed to the team prior to swimmer sign up. It impacts swimmers in a big way on planning.

Our club team practice there and our coach more or less said to expect weeks of closures...

It's really bothering me that this major change hasn't been pushed out. This is the beginning of the season- for some swimmers it will be their first club meet. I would imagine that this would cause some clubs to switch to a different meet to attend as well...

I sympathize with that, but I also sympathize with Makos and other clubs that have had to figure out how to get hundreds of kids back to practice this week without a pool. I imagine it's been a monumental effort and logistical feat that has had to happen in real-time given an ever-changing timeline from GMU.
I also doubt many clubs would switch meets. As evidenced by this forum, clubs and families take youth swimming pretty seriously and are willing to drive all over the DMV to attend a meet. Let's all try to have some patience and grace.

Not trying to be rude, but this statement seems a little over the top for the thread. No one was being crappy about it. They are just stating for planning purposes the information should be rolled out.

Our club notified us yesterday of the location change and asked swimmers to adjust. I know that a number of swimmers have to pull from one day of events just due to logistics and other events happening in the DMV that day.

I wasn’t trying to be over the top, sorry. I was responding to PP saying it was “really bothering” them. I felt that was over the top given the situation the GMU-using clubs have been put in. It stinks all around for everyone, GMU itself included. Sorry again if it came off wrong.

GMU competition pool construction messed up with two lanes missing T’s in the tile work that they had done to the pool. So now it needs to be drained and re-tiled to add the T’s. What a huge oversight!

What's the eta to fix that? Really frustrating

Suppose to be end of Sept. GMU hasn’t been transparent and there is a lot of unknowns. With the temps turning cold next month they really need to sort it out asap before the overnight temps turn cold and all the outdoor alternatives are gone. Indoor is a hot commodity in NOVA so space would be a scramble.
