Mandatory homework at 3rd grade

Anonymous
It is just a sheet of simple math homework (not optional) daily Monday to Thursday starting yesterday at 3rd grade. I like it. Is it happening at 3rd grades & above or just specific teacher/school? I wish they have writing homework as well.

That's what my third grader had last year. Only math, nothing else.

I homeschooled 3rd grade for Covid so can’t answer the question but if you want your kid to practice writing OP pringvv be some stuff out online and have them practice writing.
Look for essay prompts etc

My 3rd grader also has a nightly reading sheet and yesterday had a short answer page…

Just your teacher. That’s great.

We had math HW in 2nd and 3rd grade and now in 4th grade. Some teachers give a weekly packet and others assign workbook pages each night.

If your teacher isn’t assigning it you can access the whole Eureka math curriculum for free via pdfs or videos on Zearn.

With the new Amplify curriculum, we got reading hw this week. It looks like a piece of paper tear from a workbook. I don’t know if it will be a daily hw like math.

I have a 3rd grader. Just a front and back of a Eureka math sheet Monday through Thursday. K, 1, and 2 were similar except that they added in 30 minutes of reading on your own.

Nope-I'm not the OP, and my 3rd grade kid has had homework every night this week. Nothing major--reading sheets and some short reading comprehension questions mostly.

OP why are you surprised. All my kids had math homework in 3rd grade. Sometimes something from language arts like spelling or vocabulary. Not to mention they should still be reading at least 20-30mins a night.

My third grader hasn't had any homework so far at least.

My kids before covid/eureka had optional homeworks like a calendar thing, where you complete 20 tasks out of a month you get dojo points, and it was mostly about reading, no math work were sent home. After eureka, 2nd starts to have daily hw, but not in K and 1st

Which school?

Our school has had homework starting in freaking kindergarten, despite the lack of evidence for the value of homework in elementary school at all...
