| Hi, we will be touring and spending two days in Ann Arbor. Other than the tour, any suggestions on fun things to see, do with my DC? Restaurant recs welcome! Thanks |
| Spend one of those days in East Lansing instead. |

So I was a kid in Ann Arbor and (parents went there). So if this sounds like a list a small child would assemble, that's why. Ann Arbor has changed a ton since I was little.
Is one of those days a Saturday? Go to Kerrytown and visit the Farmer's Market. There's a bakery at the market that makes this Pecan bread that's so good that my siblings and I call it "Crack bread". Zingerman’s is pretty famous but pricey but the chocolate cherry sourdough is worth the hype. Walk the Diag, Main, State Street and University, maybe go play skee ball at Pinball Pete's (which has been around since my Dad was a child). Checking out East Lansing isn't a terrible idea if you have extra time. Michigan State is also a solid school (my parents would side eye me for saying that during football season, but it's true, my friends from school who went there did very well). |

If are spending time in Detroit, this place is a unique experience:

I went to U of M and I believe that is reasonable. One day for a campus is enough. MSU is also a source of pride for us locals. Ann Arbor restaurants that I like: Cafe Zola Frita Batidos Miss Kim |
| Where are the UMich regulars? What's with all this graciousness toward MSU? |
My experience is people who actually went to Michigan don't look down on Michigan State that much, usually because a lot of them were their high school classmates. The exception being the Saturday when they play each other in football. |
| Take a walk in the Arb |
| Frita Batidos (Cuban street food) is AMAZING. |
PP. I am a U of M grad who is tired of sports talk, trashing other schools, etc. The change begins with me, yada yada. Also, I see that many kids are looking at flagship type schools. It makes sense to be open-minded. Isn't that the goal of a college education? |
It's fun. But careful about parking. It's urban. Don't leave things out in your car. Just like in parts of DC. |
| Go to a game if you’re there on a weekend. |
State the dates - might be able to recommend something on campus as an evening event |
|
Jerusalem Garden for lunch.
Walk the diag. Visit the arboretum. Walk around downtown Ann Arbor. The art museum is decent. Visit North Campus. Maybe visit Gallup Park so you get a sense of something locals do. |

We like to visit the Maya Lin earthwork every once in a while.
