Is it odd to order just kabobs from a kabob place like Moby Dick?

I don't always want to eat the pounds of rice that comes with the entree, delicious as it is. Yet I feel like if I just ordered a half dozen kabobs, my family and I could eat them with other meals - i.e. homemade meals with a kabob for each person so we aren't having to take the time to cook/grill meat. Weird to order that way? I feel like most orders are kabob/rice or kabob/salad.

Not at all. This is how we often order back home in the Middle East, where kabobs are sold in restaurants that mainly specialize in meat, and you order by weight. In some places here, you also can order “family style”, where the meat is put together, though they still charge for the full price (including sides), but then we consolidate the sides as well, and choose sides we like. Next time you’re in a kabob place, ask for “family style”.

P.s. op, if it makes you feel slightly better, most of the expense in the kabobs is in the meat anyway. So don’t feel like you’re paying tons for rice, or sides. Shemali’s and I think Aracosia sell the meat by “kabob”.

Our kabob place lets you swap the rice for salad. Is that an option?

Protip from someone married to an Iranian: Mobys lets you order individual kebabs (check under "side orders.") We ususally order a couple of kebab meals with rice or salad and then a couple of "side order" kebabs. They also have family platters as the PP said but the specific combos are not my family's preference. The individual meals come with a ton of rice!

Also, always order extra bread and yogurt!

Just came to say this. We have only ordered the kebabs plenty of times.
