Last year in second grade, we were told to always pack a snack and kid could go get it from their backpack when they needed it (at transition points during the day).
We assumed the same would be true this year but kid told me yesterday they aren’t allowed to have a snack in the morning. Lunch is at 12:40. She’s not much of a breakfast either so that snack has been pretty important. I’ll make her eat a bigger breakfast I guess but that doesn’t seem right. The teacher told the kids it’s preparing them for middle school…. But that’s still years away! Should I raise it with the teacher or just let it go… |
| I let my 6th graders have a snack. Same with my 7th graders. Feel free to show the teacher this post |
| Afaik our school doesn't do snack time at all even for K. They don't say to pack a snack. |

| Our schools stopped allowing classroom food last spring when the mice moved in. |
| We grew up without snacks in school. Your DC will be hungry for a day or two and then will learn to eat breakfast. I think she'll live. |
| I have kids at 2 different MCPS elementary schools, and there was never any discussion about bringing or eating snacks. |
| A lot of schools have started to switch to a snack pantry, sponsored by the PTA, because we have too many kids starving and not being able to focus on their studies. I don't see an issue with it, and it doesn't really impact anyone else. |
I wish my schools would do this. I HATE eating in the classroom. Kids are messy. Keep it in the cafeteria where it belongs. |

Poor kids get breakfast at school hah hah they eat it. They get lunch too.

This is your dd's problem. At her age she should go without a snack. Perhaps she will eat her breakfast then if she is hungry? Just let it go |
| We are in 3rd with a 12:40 lunch and a morning snack is allowed. I send/bring costco boxes of single serving snacks so there are enough for the class. I will say thst we focused on protein for my 8 year old since 1st. So eggos, cottage cheese and/or turkey bacon in the am. And it keeps her well sated until lunch even if there was no snack. |
OP is not disputing she will live. She’s aware of that. I think she expects a higher bare though, like her kid isn’t hungry and unable to focus for 2 hours a day. That’s a late lunch OP. My kid is in MS and has lunch at 1250. They have a snack at 1040. If she’s had a decent breakfast she skips snack. But some days shes not hungry right when she gets up, so she eats it on those days because she may have only had a banana or smoothie for breakfast . |

We never had snacks in ES. School started at 8:30 and lunch was 11:30.
snack should be an apple or other healthy item. Childhood obesity, and all that. |
She needs to eat breakfast regardless. |
