Night out concert outfit

Anonymous
I’m turning 40 and my best friend is flying in to take me to a concert this fall. I haven’t been to a concert since before I got married 10 years ago. I haven’t been out of the house much at all since my third kid was born 3 months ago. I’m looking forward to this concert.

What do people wear to concerts nowadays? I’ve got a serious post-c-section pouch and feel very insecure about my appearance. Since having kids 5 years ago, I’ve slowly gone from a size 10 to a size 16.

I want to look and feel fabulous for my night out. Any tips?

What’s your favorite part of your body? Accentuate that. Nice rack, wear a low cut top. Great shoulders, halter top. Great legs, mini skirt. If you don’t like anything, wear comfortable clothes. Jeans and t shirts will always be appropriate concert but if you want to up the game go with a little sparkly top or black dress.

What's the concert? I think that's will influence recommendations.

I’m a 40yo who just went to a pitbull concert.

Lots of all black outfits, lots of Jean shorts and tank tops of all variety (casual to sparkly), lots of white tennis shoes or other sneakers and very few high heels

I work a black tank dress and white sneakers. Friend wore a black short sleeve romper. Both looked cute (for 40yo women) and didn’t stand out as out of the norm or exceptionally cute

Just remember to stick to the bag policy.

Most concerts I’ve been to are pretty casual, jeans and black seem typical. Wear comfortable shoes as you stand up a lot at most concerts.

+1. But the recs for a black outfit with fashion sneakers are on point.

What concert and venue? Most people wear jeans. If you are going to be standing wear sneakers. If it is crowded no one can see your feet/legs so just wear a cute top.

I was Mitski last night and there was a huge range of outfits, from club clothes (backless halter tops) to prairie chic, to jeans, T-shirt and chucks. Wear what you are comfortable in and what makes you feel good! The pp who suggested accentuating your best asset gave good advice. Have a great time!

When you say concert, I think if a live symphony. I wear an evening gown.

Part of the fun of going to a concert is that no one is looking at you! Just wear something comfy and have fun.

Oh, like it's a laundry day!

I assume you don't mean classical music? Because I go to those with an evening (seasonally appropriate) dress, heels, bag and jewelry, possibly long coat. Unless it's a matinee and then it's an afternoon or cocktail dress.

A size 16?! It's going to be tough to find anything cute.

The concerts I go to people wear jeans, tshirts, and Docs. Sometimes the women wear black dresses.

Whatever will make you feel most confident, even if it’s “frumpy.” People respond mostly to energy you radiate.
