| It’s actually sad to write this but i just hit 50s and I can’t decide on my career choice. I have two very different career paths in front of me and I am equally drawn to each one. I would be doing both jobs in the ideal world but they can not be combined. One path is more money, the other one - more happiness. I can’t give up money as of course like anyone I like to spend. How did you decide when confronted with choices? |
| Which one could you still be doing in 15 years? Can you see yourself working till 65 in either path? Which one would be more sustainable? |
| I was put out to pasture at 55. Be smart about your choice. |
| But are you willing to make the lifestyle shift if your job brings so much happiness? Will the lower paying job cover necessities and future retirement? |
This is horrible. I’m sorry to hear. |
Yes, either path could be longer-term. The happy path actually comes with negative health impact over time (like work related injury will amplify) so I’m not quite sure I could still be doing it in 15 years. I seem to be weighing longer term less than present actually, as in the long term we’re all dead anyway. |
No, but yes. And I know that then it means I have to stick with the higher pay job… it is working out in terms of job satisfaction, even as my performance reviews are fine… |
| *not working out (I meant) |
| If you can’t give up money, it sounds like you’ve already made your choice? |
| No - I keep changing my mind. And not ultimately making a decision. And keep working two jobs. I’m exhausted. |
You have two full time jobs? |
| No, one is part time - lower salary scale one. |
