EDP in the DMV mainly a Maryland league?

Anonymous
Why EDP seem to be majorly a Maryland league? My kids team is a VA based team and play mostly MD teams, many in Baltimore area. Wtf! Why not play some other league in VA where I assume there are plenty of teams?

Because EDP has more depth and more even promotion/relegation. NCSL dominates low mid Virginia and is old, parochial and just okay

Yes EDP has more teams who play in Maryland than in Virginia. Some are really good teams too.

There are not many clubs in VA that are not GA or ECNL so EDP is made up of random clubs that don't have access to those leagues or the teams below ECNL, GA ENCL RL that play EDP

The difference is that ECNL(RL) has a large local regional league in VA where most teams play. They don't have one in MD (only a league that spans MD up through NJ). That's the major divide.

That said, the NL leagues are of a higher quality than the VA RL leagues - so depending on your EDP level, you may be getting a higher level of competitor.

Also, at the high school level VA schools play soccer in spring, so the leagues on both sides of the potomac have to work around it. Hence not too many leagues that play in both.

Unfortunately for NCSL Ecnl figured out they can make a lot of money because parents want their girls to have a logo on their shirt. They keep taking away teams from NCSL and adding them to ECNL RL. It has left the few good teams in both leagues ECNL RL and NCSL with very few competitive games. NCSL has very good teams in u9/10 then they lose them to other leagues

Fundamentally everyone wants to be where everyone else is. Which is why the alphabet soup of leagues continues to churn. The key is to figure out where your players will get the best competition, which is why it feels like everyone is following a herd. Because they are.

Why would a nova team play EDP instead of ncsl? Competition level?

I think so. All the major clubs put their top teams in EDP at least before MLSNext and ECNL ages

Not when looking at the better VA RL teams. Teams like 2009G GFR and 2010 Arlington RL tend to start players who could be (or were) ECNL subs at other clubs, and who outmatch EDP squads.

The main issue, and the reason I partially agree with you, is the bottom half of VA ECRL is way below EDP (where there is more parity). The new ECRL clubs in VA aren’t helping anything.

Aggregate goals for / goals against in the first two games of ECRL

- DCSC girls 7 / 43, this club doesn’t field a 2008 team.
- LMVSC girls 4/44

Then you have clubs like Stafford (5/20 in one game day), PWSI (4/12 against McLean), and BRYC (7/43).

I feel like ECRL needs a promotion / relegation system.

The south Atlantic is split into two divisions depending on location, it isn’t 1/2 it’s a and b

EDP needs to stop accepting Delaware teams. No one wants to drive all the way there. It’s ridiculous.

Now that DCSC moved their top/blue teams to EDP we realize it was to get ECNL-R this year. Jury it out on how that experiment will play out, but we will see. My best guess is that Alex is going to try to get GA back at well based on their top teams playing in EDP and their travel patterns of their better girls teams.

EDP has teams all over the east coast. Your complaint needs to be that DE doesnt need to be in the south atlantic division
