Best band instrument for kid new to music

4th grader wants to join band and he has expressed interest in trumpet. Is this a good instrument to start with? He has never played an instrument other than banging on a piano a little, cannot read music.

Yes if he wants the trumpet, it’s a good starter one

Trumpet, sax, clarinet, flute are good starter instruments.

Trombone is trickier because pitch is controlled by sliding a piece, and you need to slide it the right amount to produce the right pitch. If you don't have a good ear for pitch, trombone will be harder to start out on, but like anything it can be learned with enough practice.

i think clarinet is supposed to be the easiest. flute and trumpet require more breath
