| Code Orange air alert for today |
| Do we have to call each school to find out or will Central have a district wide message? |
|
Is there a reason you need to know OP?
Here is the MCPS protocol on code orange. https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/athletics/health/heatindex/ CODE ORANGE - HEAT INDEX FROM 95° TO 104° Exercise caution. Provide ample water. Water is always available and athletes should have unrestricted access. Mandatory water breaks every 30 minutes for 10 minute time frames. Ice-down tub and towels are available. Reduce time outside or move indoors to air conditioning if possible. Athletes should be monitored carefully. Limit time in which student-athletes are wearing full equipment. |
🙄Always about the student athlete. What about a regular student who happens not to be an athlete (gasp, yes those students do exist!) , |
| Do MS and HS have recess? You could those kids to sit in shade if they are outside today. Oh wait, you can't because there's a no cell phone policy. Let your kid know before tomorrow's lunch recess if another alert when it's supposed to be very hot. |
No. |
| It's not called recess in MS but students can spend time outside after lunch. It's still within the lunch period. |
Non-athletes are less at risk from high temperatures. Seems pretty common sense to me. |
|
Your kid will live, OP.
Sheesh. |
| Its 30 min. They will be fine. |
|
outdoor time should be restricted to 15- to 30-minute increments with frequent hydration when the heat index exceeds 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 84 degrees with 70%+ humidity.
Outdoor time should be avoided when the heat index exceeds 100 degrees. Has heat index exceeded 100 degrees since 11am? |

today and tomorrow as well |
I hope you are not really suggesting that you need your middle or high schooler to have a cell phone so that you can remind them to sit in the shade when they are outdoors on a really hot day? I think they'll figure it out! And yes, tomorrow will be worse, so you can remind them tonight, and/or put a cute note in their lunchbox which their peers will all appreciate. |
You must not have tweens or teens, or yours are something else. |
Tweens and teens figure this out. And you know who does if they don’t? Teachers, Staff, and Admin. They don’t need a phone to know to move to the shade. Check the weather before school, give your reminders at home and then move on. They’ll be fine. |
