Drivers license and other mail coming to my address

Is this related to data breaches - A few months ago an actual DMV drivers license was mailed to our house, and the voter registration materials soon followed, for someone we do not know. We complained and DMV contacted the guy who said, I believe, it was an error but the guy is still on the state’s voter website under our address! We are only the second owner of this house and we confirmed the prior owner never heard of this guy.

Then this weekend we received in the mail a notice of rejection of an application for a reverse mortgage - in someone else’s name - not even the guy with the driver’s license. (We own our property with no mortgage.)

Is there anything we can do to stop this; what scam are they trying to perpetuate? We are at home all the time, so they aren’t squatting. We informed local police, in case any strange people to to claim they live here. What else needs to be done?

I would lock down your credit. See if your county has a service for alerts on property records, where you get notified if there’s activity on your deed.

Keep an eye on your credit report. Not much else you can do.

Thank you both - we are signed up for alerts on deed and have locked credit reports.

The reverse mortgage application one would make me nervous.

My dh owns an undeveloped lot in a popular vacation area. A few months ago someone tried to list it for sale. The guy had a VA drivers license with dh’s info, but his picture. Thankfully most of the real estate agents he approached were skeptical and found either myself or Dh on social media and reached out to confirm the story. One agent actually took the listing, but we got ahold of him and had it taken down. It’s scary what people are willing to do these days.

Terrible. Glad it worked out okay in the end.
