The Venezuelans are on to something . . .

I got a 50cc scooter a few months ago and it makes getting around DC a breeze. It gives you all the oomph you need in the city and, at about 100 gallons per mile, is super economical. Obviously not great for heavy grocery runs but a super practical option for just about everything else. And so much compared to being stuck in a steel box!

You are about 20 years behind on this observation, but keep up the good work!

That doesn't sound very economical actually.

I had a Top Fuel Rail Dragster in the early 2000’s that got better mileage than this. It would burn about 15 gallons to go a quarter mile - so about 60 gallons/mile. At 285 mph.

Not too mention the ability to completely disregard ALL traffic laws.

At least until you die.

They're used everywhere in the world except the US, my poor dear. When I return to my native Paris, I need to remember to turn my head (not just casually flick an eyeball at my side mirrors) at every lane change, because bikes and scooters whizz by on the lane markings and you could kill a dozen in one day if you don't watch out.

And this is nothing compared to scooters in India or Vietnam.

Ride one at your peril, OP.

I’m really not than concerned about killing someone on a scooter, because if it happened, it would undoubtedly be because of negligence on their part and doing super risky, crazy illegal stuff. So I’m not going to lose any sleep if I kill one of them. I have enough responsibilities in my life as it is without accepting the added burden of keeping idiots alive by protecting them from the consequences of their actions.

But you will also lose money, and possibly your liberty. I'm sure you care about that.

Better have a dashcam to prove your version of events....

Glad you found something that works for you. A scooter would absolutely complicate my life.
I went for a car and not having to work. Makes life so much easier.

I’ll lose my $500 deductible for the damages my car sustained when they collided with it or it ran over them, yes. But I will try to recoup that from their estate, if possible.

People not at-fault are typically not charged in crashes where at-fault people are responsible, even if they’re dead. So I’m not worried about losing any liberty.

.

I’ve been using a front/rear dashcam for 5 years already.

I’m not worried. I follow traffic laws. The camera is there to prove that. If you do something dumb and illegal on a scooter and crash into me and die, I’ll be putting on YouTube and Worldstar.
