These appear to be some of the top recruiting platforms:
NCSA Captain U Sports Recruit Which one do you prefer? Are there other better ones not listed here? Do you just register with one or is there a benefit to be present on several? |
NONE of the above. All money grabs. They do not help in the recruiting process and coaches do NOT use them to recruit! Go buy this book https://rlopezcoaching.com/product/looking-for-a-full-ride-an-insiders-recruiting-guide/ its a step-by-step guide to the college recruiting process. Another great resource is https://www.sportsrecruitingusa.com/ but they are pricy. Follow Coach Don Williams (https://twitter.com/Don_K_Williams) and College Soccer Truth (https://twitter.com/ImCollegeSoccer) on X they give great advice. Start by getting a highlight film together and start to send college coaching staff emails yourself to establish relationships. We put film on YouTube and shared the links across social media for easy access. Once a coach expresses interest we send short highlight clips regularly to keep on the radar. |
I agree. None. College coaches want to hear from your kid. |
NCSA is a joke and college coaches admit they do not use any of these 3rd party platforms to recruit players... As stated have your child speak directly to the coaches and coaching staff. |
These are not recruiting services. They are platforms where your kid puts their stuff. OP -- most top clubs have their kids on some platform. Many use Sports recruits. But it is done through the club. |
??? NCSA is most definitely a recruiting platform |

Former travel coach here. - It depends 🙂. I would say check with your travel coach or your Age Group Coordinator to see if the club already has one that is included with your club fees. All of them are pretty easy to use and have a huge database of D1-D3 schools. As always money grabbers are taking an extreme point of view which seems to be based in some really bad personal experience. Having poured over hundreds of college communications through a couple of the platforms I can tell you colleges do look at the profiles, they do communicate with coaches and players, and players are given offer letters based off of initial conversations from the platform. Where the money grabbers are right though is that it boils down to personal accountability. The technology is nice but the player and parents are driving the ship. |
| When should this get started? I have a HS sophmore that wants to play in college. D3 might be realistic. When do we start communicating with coaches? Don't want to annoy them by starting too early. |
Start now and let them know what ShowCase events you will play in this spring time. If his club, outside of HS does not play in any College ShowCase events, then you can send in game film in the spring time, that way official correspondence with the coach can start the summer before his junior year. |
| If your kid's coaches/TD can't help them find a different club/team. Pay to get noticed didn't work well compared to club connections |
| Is there a mass guide to colleges and their soccer coaches' contact info online somewhere? |

DD ('25) D1 ACC commit here:
- Emails #1. Went to a few camps (#2) and is committed to uni she went to camp for. They were very happy to have her and you knew they were interested even at a younger age before they could talk. E-mail coaches going to showcases no earlier than a couple weeks out. Anything earlier and you'll be going to the bottom of the inbox and forgotten. Make sure you e-mail coaches even though they aren't on the showcase website. Large schools ALWAYS show up and you'll see them on the sideline and be thankful you e-mailed them. Follow-up e-mails with your highlights. Keep your highlight video fresh and have 'chapters' in your highlights. Clearly delineate what you're showcasing and for the love of God, drop the house music. After this, which isn't hard, it's up to what the coaches need. Now with a 28 max cap, that's just 7 girls per year. As an example, most D1s (including DDs) have 10-11 girls incoming. They want girls who are interested and they'll come see you if you are... they won't waste time on a rando player. |
Not a mass website, but when you go to the showcase website (ECNL in this example), they'll have the coaches who are attending. Find that school via Google and e-mail the coaches. I would always put the head coach on there and the positional coach, if able. Most uni websites under the coaching bio will have their positional breakout... keeper coaches, defensive, etc. You could just blast all 3 or 4, but be sure to hit those who are attending the showcase and the HC. Your DD/DS shouldn't be e-mailing 100 unis, so it's fairly easy. Copy paste the e-mail and end it with the school motto or something to keep it 'personal'. Like adding FIGHT ON if you e-mail USC or ROLL TIDE if it's bama. Nice and easy |
Do they recruit goalkeepers each year and, if so, how many? |
There's no really good metric. Some power teams have just two keepers, then there's a school like Duke that has FOUR keepers every year. VT has four this year, which is abnormal, but three are graduating or finished after this season. Our best guess is that some schools will want 2-3, so there could be years when they have fresh/sophs they skip keepers for 7 field players, as an example. Doesn't have to be a hard seven of course, just mathematically it makes sense to be even as best you can. |
