How to block TikTok

Anonymous
Help. I’m at my wit’s end on how to block TikTok on my daughter’s phone. She is 14 years old and is totally addicted to it. She just got a phone in 8th grade but now spends way too much time on the phone.

Can anyone explain how you were able to successfully block TikTok on your child’s device?

Do you have an iPhone? You can block the app via ScreenTime.

Yes I have an iPhone you. I tried blocking it on her phone. Do I need to block it on my phone?

Not an expert but: remove the TikTok app from her phone and make sure she needs parent permission to download any new apps. You may need to remove it from the your phone/Cloud but not sure (my kids can download apps from cloud without permission- maybe someone else knows if that can be blocked ?). Also block TikTok on web browsers.

Or if it is really just an issue of time you can allow only a certain amount of time on it per day.

That is all in screentime function for iPhones

Also make sure she can’t figure out the password because my kids seemed to always be able to figure it out after a time.

I have taken her phone multiple times after finding the app on it. She eventually downloads it again and I take away the phone again.

Take it away for a longer period each time.

A day first offense. A week second offense. A month next offense.

This goes for any violation of the usage contract you should have made her sign before she was given the privilege of having a phone.

See the above post. You need to set up screen time settings so she can’t download apps and in addition you need to set the screen time limit to 0.

Do I do this on my phone or her phone?
She is listed in my phone under ‘family.’

You can do it either way. On your phone go to settings, screen time, then go to family and her name. Screen time should pop up as an option so you would hit continue and follow the prompts. You can set up downtime, limit contacts during downtime, click app limits and control the amount of time she can access various apps, etc.

Make it so she can’t download apps without permission!

Take her phone away and give her a dummy phone that can only talk and text. She doesn't need internet if she's addicted.
