No Cell Phones, Bell to Bell

Anonymous
Wondering if folks have heard from their own kids re: cell phones "between classes" and "at lunch." Imo, phones are clearly an interference DURING class -- that's a no-brainer. But I am not seeing much on here about non-class time (meaning, DURING the school day, not after). Kids are on phones between class and at lunch. Instead of having a real "break" from class time, or true social time with peers. My guess is parents aren't aware what's actually going on. Our kids have recently, sheepishly, said their *actual preference* is no one using phones during the entire school day. That way, all are focused on each other, not YouTube, texting, snap, etc. I was pretty stunned to hear this, given the role of phones for teens. But of course it makes total sense. Having lunch with no one to talk to -- LITERALLY -- bc all are on phones...that is no good for developing adolescents. The kids are really tired of it. Put differently, students ARE ON THE PHONES ALL DAY, IF ALLOWED. "Away during class" is a 50% response. Bell-to-bell no phones is what's needed for the good of the kids. Thoughts?

This is redundant.

No. This thread is about *all day* no phones. Specifically.

That thread is about a cell phone ban. All flavors of a cell phone ban were being discussed in that thread.
