My child was placed in the level IV class this year. She’s not that level. She’s a 3, maybe a 2. She’s in 4th grade
I don’t know why they put her in. I’m thinking maybe due to SOLs last year ( she got over 500 on both). Anyway my question is, will a non level IV kid be able to hack it? Is she going to be overwhelmed and not know what she’s doing? |
Math is the most challenging so help at home and she will be ok. |
Im sure its not too late to ask the school to move classes. Why bother if she doesnt need or want the challenge? |
This probably varies by school but my son who is in aap got a 600 on 3rd grade sols. So I wouldn't consider a 500 a particular good score. Its likely the other kids scored higher. |
Level 4 is not challenging. There will be more material but not more difficulty except in math. For example: History might include the cash crops of the 13 colonies English might include reading a book that other classes don't read. It's the math. That is pretty much the only important part of level 4 that distinguishes AAP from gen ed. |
Your kid is smart enough to be placed in the AAP class. Teachers believe in her and so should you.
She will surprise you. Just offer help if she needs it. |
a 500 or higher is a good score. Not sure what you are talking about. |
The difference between 520 and 600 could be a few questions. It’s not that big a difference. |
Ignore this poster who doesn't understand how SOL scoring works. She just wants to brag about a 600 (not unusual btw). Congrats, I guess. |
It's really not that different from the other classes, except for math. Your child will be fine. |
She'll be fine! |
A lot of kids in LIV don’t score pass advanced on both SOLs. Your kid will likely be in the middle of the pack in the LLIV classroom. |
Thanks for the responses. I fully believe my child is intelligent enough to access the curriculum. I think my worry is, is she disciplined enough. She’s very, very social and ADHD. I hope she will rise to the occasion. |
