| My son wants to take German at MC when he is a freshman at MCPS. Is this possible? |
| Probably, if you can arrange it. |
| It’s only open to juniors and seniors. You apply in 10th grade. |
|
Sorry - PP. did you mean duel enrollment?
Otherwise I think you can sign your child up with MC on your own. But I’m not sure if they would excuse the absence during the school day. |
|
Dual enrollment may be possible for something like a language not offered at the home school. But the issue will be the schedule and transportation. How is your kid getting there from the high school? I would think the class would have to be an evening class, because your freshman won’t be allowed an abbreviated schedule.
Talk to your counselor about it. |
Dual, not duel!
|
I believe you can do single class Dual Enrollment classes prior to junior year but the early college program requires applying in 10th grade with the program starting Junior year. Each school has a counselor that is the dual enrollment coordinator, they can let you know what is required. |
| A dean at MC told me a few years ago that their youngest student was an 8th grader. Foreign language classes are popular for the younger students. |
| If you don’t care about getting HS credit, you don’t need to go through MCPS at all. |
