For those of you with incoming freshmen, just a reminder that some of the high schools have affiliated club sports, including rowing and ice hockey. These sports do have fees associated with them because they are usually run by parent boards of directors, but they offer the opportunity for kids to try sports that are unique and fun.
Schools with rowing teams (both boys and girls): Montgomery Blair HS BCC HS Walt Whitman HS Walter Johnson HS DC National Rowing Club (pulls from schools like Churchill, Damascus, Poolesville) Schools with ice hockey: Walter Johnson HS Sherwood HS BCC High School Feel free to add to this list - not sure what the other schools are. To be clear, these are not sanctioned or funded by MCPS itself, but are club sports that are sort of loosely affiliated with various schools. |
Thanks for this post! Does anyone know if Rockville HS have any of “affiliated club sports?” |
| Also ultimate frisbee at some schools! |
| Don’t forget ultimate frisbee- yes!!! |
| Also squash at Whitman |
Bagpipes- and I’m not kidding . They used to go to Scotland and win. |
I know some other schools also have squash. |
| Rockville joins in for ice hockey. Some MCPS high schools combine students for teams. |
| Thanks! Does anyone know if Northwood HS has any club sports? |
| Northwood kids can row crew with Blair- and many do. Bus leaves at 3:30 from the Blair parking lot. Lots of kids from other high schools on the team. Check it out! |
