Health and Medicine
I am packing for my upcoming move next saturday and somehow between carrying boxes and piling them up and moving furniture I injured my back. I'm a single mom and now I can't move! I don't wanna be on a hole bunch of meds, which is my guess if I go to a doctor. I was wondering if anybody has had the same issue before and how you dealt with it. Stretching or something similar, does that work? I am laying on my couch as I type and just breathing hurts like HELL. Please help!
I hate to tell you this but the only thing that will help is time and rest. Ibuprofen might help a little. Same thing happened to me once so I know what you're going through. It sucks. I hope you have movers for next Saturday because you can't, simply can't, lift boxes then or it will get even worse.
Yup, rest and recuperate for back strain.
Take Motrin and use a small heating blanket on your back, if you have one. I had a similar thing happen to me the next morning after shovelling snow this past winter. It took several days before I felt like myself again. Don't strain yourself anymore with packing/lifting -- you don't want to slip a disc.
21:20 here. If you don't have a heating blanket, I would imagine that taking a hot bath would help.
Yes, definitely the rest. When I've pulled something in my back, it's usually usable by the next day and pretty well healed by the second. But take it easy. And make sure you lift with your legs, not your back and abs. Keep boxes close to your body when lifting as well.
You poor thing! I know how you feel! Don't stretch. Just try to rest and not move too much (how old is your DC?). Definitely take some motrin or advil to help relieve the inflamation and continue taking it for a few days. For the future, once you're healed, do lots of stretches! I use a tennis ball to lie on when I feel like I have a knot in my lower back. Take care of yourself!
you might want meds, they can help relax your muscles, which tighten in pain. i used skelaxan about a decade ago. it did not make me sleepy. not sure if it's still being prescribed. not sure of spelling. will check.
P.S. It's skelaxin. Good luck!
The names these drug marketers conjure up is ridiculous. Sounds like a combination of "skeleton" and "relax". |
OP here: Thanks everybody for the help. Took it a lot of rest and taking major anti-inflammatory medication, but I can move now. I feel better, but the pain is still there. I guess time is the best solution indeed. I was feeling a tingling sensation (pins and needles) on my back as well and my boyfriend was freaking me out telling me to go to the ER. Glad I didn't do that.

20:56 Bingo! It made me laugh, too! At the same time, I remember the name because of that. Better than many meds with more pharma sounding names.
I'd visit a chiropractor and pick up a heating pad.
