| I’m looking for a clutch or small purse. My price range is $500 or under. I want something nice and not overdone (no Coach, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, etc). I have a large Cuyana tote that I like a lot but I’m looking for other brands that are well made but not insanely expensive (although I know even $400 is really expensive) - any ideas? |

I came across this brand when I was searching for bags recently. The Vancouver might suit what you are seeking: https://demellierlondon.com/

| I have a demellier purse and I really like it. |

I have two from Clare V and like them.
Also Furla or Manseur Gavriel have nice clutches |
| Strathberry, though some styles will be a bit over your budget. |

I’ve often wondered who prefers a clutch…and when do they actually use it?
I tend to prefer (ginormous) totes. I think it’s a carryover from so many years of schlepping around a diaper bag (I have a handful of kids, but the diaper days are long gone). I prefer a sturdy, statement handbag that I can carry on my forearm when I’m dressed up and opt for a crossbody when shopping or sightseeing. For me, it all comes down to function: what do I need to carry in the bag? That dictates size, shape, and strap. Can you provide a bit more intel on what you plan to carry in it? Or perhaps post something that demonstrates size/functionality even if it’s a basic brand? FTR I still think Kate Spade covers the gambit when it comes to shape/functionality, so perhaps find a link from that brand so we know what you are looking for and then we can suggest alternative brands. And: color. What are you looking for? I used to stick to black, but I’ve found red and orange to be amazingly neutral colors that pop against my wardrobe. Someone once told me every gal needs bags in black, brown, red, orange, and a bold, unexpected design/color. I think they were on to something in terms of covering all the bases. |
I sometimes like a clutch for evenings---going out to dinner, parties, etc. I tuck it under my arm if I have to stand and there isn't a place to stash it. |

I found this on a Reddit about quality leather handbags that are well made and reasonably priced. Cute stuff. But I wonder how heavy they are? My pal has the most awesome vintage Ralph Lauren bag but she stopped carrying it years ago because it was too heavy. |
I get that. I think I still have ptsd from worrying about my stupid (and expensive) fancy clutch that made my outfit at a formal event but essentially controlled my every move since I had to hold it or ask my husband to hold it when I needed my hands free. Plus there wasn’t anywhere to set it down in the loo. Never again :0) |

The Hunting Season makes lovely, understated bags. The price point is a bit above $500, but some bags are under and others you may be able to find on sale.

I assume women who carry totes everywhere are really disorganized. That’s the case with my friends who are tote people. They have like four years of lost crap in there, and they don’t take the time to clear it out. I always carry a small clutch sized purse with a strap, and just my phone, keys and cards. |

Disclaimer: I know Cathleen when I lived in Dubai. Her bags are seriously beautiful and incredibly well made. She is in a lot of British magazines and I'm always surprised she hasn't made it here yet.
