I’m surprised no one has posted this yet. It’s the list of where last year’s seniors applied and were accepted by APS high school. I’m guessing the data is from Naviance, so isn’t complete.
I find it most interesting to see the difference in where the students applied by high school. 33 kids from Yorktown applied to Auburn, but only 1 from Wakefield. 65 kids from Wakefield applied to Marymount, but only 17 from Yorktown. https://www.arlingtonmagazine.com/college-applications-arlington-va-2024/ |
Wealthier, whiter students apply to Auburn in greater numbers than poorer minority students - more on the developing story at 11. But first, does household income correlate with applying to schools closer to home so you can live at home for free? We go to Chet at Marymount for more. |
Yes- that’s true. I’m also guessing that demographic differences might explain why fewer kids from Wakefield seem to be applying to schools in Florida. But explain why twice as many student from Wakefield applied to Columbia than from Yorktown? Or why the number of applicants to Georgetown was 3 times higher for W-L than Yorktown? |
Times have changed. The correlations aren't as stark as they used to be, as Arlington parents (particularly WL and YHS parents) seem to want to perpetuate. Don't you ever get tired of all this? |
Who knows, maybe word of mouth from kids who go there affects who applies where. And who cares? |
