high school recruiting - girls

Anonymous
Hi, I am a basketball newbie so would love some advice on the following - My daughter is a talented player, starts on her travel team and her dream is to play for a top private school in the area. That said:
1> How do you get on the coaches' radar? Do you have to be playing on the AAU circuit for this? Any top tournaments where high school coaches recruit heavily from?
2> Are there any "combines" or camps you would recommend specifically for this?
2> She is not on social media - started out as a No from parents and she has never asked. I would like to keep it that way unless you suggest that coaches follow these kids on social media and is a key source of identifying talent.
3> When do they start recruiting - 6th, 7th or 8th?
Any other suggestions?

Do the coaches have summer camps or clinics? If so she should be attending. Be better than the invited kids

Talk to her AAU coach about where she wants to play in high school. At a big club, there should be connections. DD was introduced to a coach and invited to a clinic that way.

The bigger clubs, at least Stars and Elevate, have one day clinics with high school coaches present.

HS coaches know all the girls from the Fairfax Stars, Team Takeover, and Team Durant. She is likely already known if she plays for one of those teams.

For other teams, she will have to do some legwork. PVT, Elevate Elite, Hurricanes, etc. players do well at mid privates (Potomac, etc), but not the elite basketball private high schools. She should attend some camps and clinics at those schools and talk to the coaches at camp. Start a dialogue. You’d be surprised at how far an honest convo can take you.

I have boys who play and live far out in the VA suburbs. The top boys circuit teams practice way out in Maryland. There is no way I was going to make that commitment and have my kids getting home at 11pm on school nights so my sons played on lesser level teams and sometimes with circuit teams. I wanted them to go to a good private too so I would talk to coaches when I saw them at events, I went to some school fairs, etc.
Email coaches and athletic directors at schools of interest. The coaches follow the PYBL too. Get her on a PYBL team. Also a respected trainer usually has connections.
