Aap decision!!

Why school just sent me email that said my kid got approved in aap full time after they sent me an email before months said that my kid approved in aap part time?
What does that mean?

It means your DC has been principal-placed. Your DC is in AAP this year, and a probably throughout elementary school but not middle school, although it's possible that your DC might be un-principal-placed next year, for whatever reason (space, failed SOLs, etc.).

There's no difference between a principal-placed student and an admitted student (that year).

So he can’t get in aap in middle school?

Correct, only committee placed kids can attend AAP classes in MS. Principal placed kids at ES take honors classes in MS.

You can apply again to be admitted by the committee. If your DC is later admitted by the committee, then he can be in AAP classes in middle school. Otherwise he can take some or all honors classes in middle school, which may be similar or identical to AAP classes.

You should absolutely apply for committee-approved placement next year. Use everything your kid did in the classroom this year as examples.

This!!! You don't want the constant threat of being sick on a SOL day and doing poorly as a way to remove your child next year, or people moving into your school and kicking you out for space considerations. re-apply this upcoming year and make it official with a LIV designation.

There is one huge difference. Committee placed gets advanced math by right. Moving a committee placed student out requires parental permission no matter how far behind they are. A principal placed kid can get bumped if there is a space crunch and more qualified kids pushing in from gen ed

And I thought principal placed kids can attend only their local school, not AAP center (if diff from local).

Yes. Principal placed is the principal putting a kid in level iv to fill out a class. As far as wider FCPS is concerned, that designation is only valid at the school

Would that happen in the middle of the year or just on the starting of the year?

That is something you should discuss with the school.

There's a standard schedule for submitting LIV requests. December 15 is the deadline for next year. I'd also talk with your teacher and AART to let them know you intend to parent refer. It can't hurt, and will put your child on their radar to start collecting samples for their package the school prepares, which might not be as common for advanced grades as it is for 2nd graders...
