Standing out: female humanities/social science major

How does a candidate not become cliche as female and sociology /women’s studies?

What can make this type of candidate stand out?

Has candidate done any school or community projects involving local women's history? E g., early voices in your community, getting a marker for the birthplace, etc.

Independent research projects at school (2 of them).
She’s applied for something with DAR.

Will have her look into this now - I don’t even know what that means!. Keep suggestions coming!

Is there an app or forum to crowd source applicant narratives (based on major/ECs), and ask for constructive feedback on how they could be made stronger?

Take some coursera/Edx classes.

Leadership in regular school clubs will also help.

Local girls /teen mentoring.

Wrong.

Most of these majors are women. Look at stats for the college on college raptor. Women are a dime a dozen.

But luckily schools don’t admit by these majors.

Get constructive feedback from her high school history teacher and both her parents. And any other trusted, educated adults in her life. No need to crowdsource. But did you try Googling? Maybe there's some value here?

PP...above link is for grad students. I always like "advanced" info...because it's usually more specific and thoughtful.

Does your daughter have a career in mind?

Thank you. I’m helping my niece, who attends a non-urban public HS on the east coast. Will send more of these ideas her way.
