The pandemic may have played a role, but the problem was exacerbated by the city’s inattention to crime. Businesses close. Workers and patrons don’t want to come back.
The vacancy rate is at an all time high hovering near 25%. https://wjla.com/features/i-team/washington-dc-real-estate-tax-revenues-revenue-risk-mayor-muriel-bowser-commercial-office-space-budget-businesses-pandemic-administration# |
You've got a Control Board like trajectory and a possible Trump administration coming up. I really hope city officials and voters put on their big boy pants and start making responsible decisions. |
|
DC was lost once they let dirt bike riders and ATVs onto the national Mall they were tearing up the grounds.
I have very little desire to ever step foot in that crime ridden hell hole with overpriced everything. I will take my money elsewhere to spend. DC is like Escape from NY at this point. Only 🐍 Pliskin finds it enjoyable. |
| More traffic cameras! |
National Mall is under Federal purview, but go on with this
|
Except the dirt bike riders and atvs are dc residents and have to ride all over DC roads to get to the mall. Are you really this dense? Also, the whole reason atvs and dirt bikes are on the mall is because dc govt has fostered a tolerance of that bs across the city. |
Malarkey. The city is in a string fiscal condition and no worse of than any other major municipality facing issues with vacant commercial space. More ridiculous whimpering about crime from recall losers. |
Buh-bye. |
| This is a result of WFH. Yes, the commercial tax base is deteriorating. Good luck getting residential services. |
Wut? My contractor and service people are happy to do work and get paid. |
| Need to end WFH or cities are all going to die. |
Or you can actually make cities places that people want to be and are easy to get to and around in. Most cities, like DC, spend a shocking amount of money on poverty perpetuation. Time to look at those budgets and think about what kind of city you actually want to be: warehouse for the poor or innovation hub? |
That's not going to happen until after the election. |
| Maybe workers/businesses will be taxed for WFH in the future. Not sure how it would be structured but I’m sure it will come. |
So, you want to penalize employers for doing something environmentally responsible? Good idea! |
